In order to make changes to your health care benefits mid year you must experience a qualifying status change event. A qualifying status change allows you to add or remove a dependent from your existing benefit coverage (as applicable). Any changes made to coverage must be consistent with the Qualified Status Change under IRS Section 125.
IMPORTANT: Changes to your benefit elections due to a life-changing event must be made within
31 days of the event.
Qualifying events include the following:
An employee’s marriage, divorce, legal separation.
The death of an employee’s spouse or a dependent.
The birth, adoption, placement for adoption, or legal guardianship of a child.
The commencement or termination of employment by the employee’s spouse.
A change from part-time to full-time employment status or vice versa by the employee or the employee’s spouse except for a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA). A HCFSA may not be changed in the event of a change in the employee’s status from part-time to full-time or full-time to part-time.
An unpaid leave of absence taken by either the employee or the employee’s spouse.
A significant change in an employee or spouse’s health coverage that is attributable to the spouse’s employment.
If you have experienced a qualifying event, submit a life event declaration form in
Dayforce to change your health care benefits. After you login to Dayforce, look for the form under Benefits.
